WADESBORO – Mrs. Hazel Hartsell Morris, 76, died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center Union – Atrium Health in Monroe.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, November 9, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gerald officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church and other times at her home.

Hazel was born September 9, 1942 in Stanly County, NC a daughter of the late William Baxter Hartsell and the late Rebecca Emiline Harvell Hartsell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was a well-noted crafts maker and freelance seamstress in Anson County for more than 50 years. She provided sewing and mending clothes for relatives, friends and anyone who heard of her work through word of mouth. She enjoyed the creation and repair of articles of clothing for others. She was a master of the fading art of “making do with what you have”.

Hazel gave the same care in letting out a waistline or making 15 bridesmaids gowns on short notice. According to the IRS, she never worked a job a day in her life, but to her family, friends and rag-toters, as her husband called them, she worked tirelessly at any job she was asked to do.

Surviving are her children, John Morris and wife, Gloria of Virginia Beach, VA, Joann Faulkner and husband, Wesley of Peachland, and Jack Morris of Wadesboro; her daughter-in-law, Judy Morris of Wadesboro and her grandchildren, Beverly Dry and husband, Hank of Locust, Jade Morris of Virginia Beach, VA, Matt Morris and Jason Morris both of Wadesboro, Dale Morris and Daniel Morris both of Albemarle and her step-grandchildren, Emma Faulkner and husband, James of Decatur, GA and Evan Faulkner and wife, Jessica of Norwood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Julian Morris, her son, Jimmy Lee Morris, her siblings and a dear friend, Charles Boyle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 430 Lansford Dr., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
