Amy was born in Monroe, NC on June 8, 1968 to Hugh Linwood Parker Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Parker. Her biggest memories growing up were participating in dance for 9 years, being a flag-girl in marching band, and being very active in church youth groups.
Amy attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English. While there, she participated in both Air Force and Army ROTC, eventually receiving an Army officer’s commission in the Engineer Corps and served in the Army National Guard. She met her husband, Mike, in Army ROTC and after graduation, began a 23 year journey to posts in the US and Germany as an army spouse. She worked as a news and document editor for several organizations before stopping work to raise her children as a stay at home mom and home-school teacher. She was an amazing teacher, with both children enrolling in college with scholarships. Amy loved to travel, experience new things, and share those with her children. She also loved to junk and would always find a way to stop at a new or favorite junk, thrift, or antique store. She loved art museums, books, and had a life-long love of reading classic literature.
Amy found joy in helping people, she liked to give and show kindness for those in her family and church. This came from her love of the Lord and she was a humble child of God. She found peace and guidance in the Bible and comfort knowing her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amy is survived by her husband, Mike Durham; her son, Ryan; her daughter, Claire; her mother, Mary Elizabeth (Lib) Parker; her brother, Hugh Linwood (Woody) Parker, Jr. (Amy McAdam Parker); and several nieces and nephews, Brandon (Lisa), Joshua (Shana), Megan (Dusty), Ethan, and Sawyer.
