MARSHVILLE – On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Mrs. Ann Capel Faulkner Griffin, 94, peacefully completed her earthly journey to her heavenly home while being cared for at Jesse Helms Nursing Center in Monroe.
There will be a memorial service honoring her life at 3:00 PM, Monday, March 11, 2024, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Marshville.
The family will greet friends following the service at a reception at the White Store Community Building, 5672 Union Church Rd., Peachland.
Ann was born November 19, 1929, in Anson County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Theodore Benton Capel and the late Hattie Blanch Marsh Capel. She was a graduate of Morven High School and Pfieffer Junior College.
She worked with the Anson County Clerk of Superior Court as the bookkeeper for more than 30 years. Following retirement and the death of her husband, she worked for 15 years as an Amtrack Train Hostess. This retirement job enabled her to continue her love of traveling as she traveled across the United States on train trips. She made many lasting friendships while working with Amtrack.
Ann was a long-time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the WMU, and served as historian for the church. She also attended First Baptist Church East Campus in Marshville.
She enjoyed gardening and was well-known for her homemade mints.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Charles R. Faulkner, Edwin E. Faulkner, Elizabeth F. Smith (Tony) and William C. Faulkner (Molly) all of Marshville; her grandchildren, Eric Faulkner (Sylvia), Emily Selvidio, Jessica Grier (Steven), Mary Beth Berger (Kurt), Anna Diggins (Levi), Caleb Faulkner, Seth Faulkner, Eden Faulkner-Flemming (Drew), Susie Faulkner, Abbey Faulkner, John Faulkner and Joseph Faulkner; her great-grandchildren, Lucas and Emma Selvidio, Oliver and Vera Faulkner, Liam and Ava Berger and Josslyn Polson and her sister-in-law, Lena Capel of Charlotte.
She also leaves her Griffin family; children; Joyce Rorie Tyson (Ed) of Wadesboro, Richard Griffin (Suzanne)of Peachland, and Jean Griffin Leak of Monroe; grandchildren, Gretchen Harwood (Dale), Beth Wilsey (John), Bill Griffin (Meredith), John Ralph Leak and Jenna Leak; and great-grandchildren, Jared Harwood, Heather Moss (Zadok), Richard Wilsey, and Gabe Griffin; and great-great-grandchildren, Zadok Moss, Jr., EmmaKay Moss and Walt Moss.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Rivers Faulkner and Ralph Redfearn Griffin and her brothers and sister, Jimmy Capel, Ben Capel, and Marguerite Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 15958 White Store Pageland Rd., Marshville, NC 28103.
