             WADESBORO - On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, Mrs. Azile Berry Goodwin, 93, slipped away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe. It is a sad day for the Goodwin family that their matriarch has chosen to go on one last adventure. Her destination to Heaven, where she will reside eternally.

 

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, February 9, 2024, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Ken Caulder officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

 

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday.

 

Azile was born August 4, 1930, in Thomasville, NC, and was a daughter of the late Willie Marlor Berry and the late Bernice Turner Berry. She retired from West Knitting Mills in Wadesboro as a Quality Control Inspector.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Debbie Goodwin of Polkton; her daughters-in-law, Sandra Pliescott and husband, Woody of Goldsboro and Phyllis Goodwin of Wadesboro and her son-in-law, Larry Bullard of Rockingham; her grandchildren, Carol Felts, Cathy Carey, Chris Goodwin, Scott Goodwin, Paul Goodwin, Sherry Augustine, Lori Brown, Brandon Bullard, Robert Goodwin and Carrie James; her daughter’s best friend who was like a second daughter, Sandy Moss and husband, David of Monroe; and her great and great-great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Goodwin, former Wadesboro Police Officer, her sons, Robert “Robbie” Goodwin, Jerry Goodwin, Allan Goodwin, her daughter, Susan Bullard; her great-grandson, Caleb Goodwin, her great-great-grandson, Jayson “JJ” Dickens; her sisters and brother, Ruth Beaver, Ruby Honeycutt and W. M. “Jr.” Berry and her nephew, Larry Beaver.

 

Azile was a special person to so many. She had a gift of seeing the best in all people and loving them for who they are. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She always be remembered for her beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eyes. Her life was a gift from God.

 

The family is most grateful to the staff at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe for the compassionate care they provided Azile and to Teresa Biggers for all that she has done to assist in her care.
