Bertha Mae “Sis” Gainey was born June 26, 1959, in Washington, DC and was a daughter of the late Willard Leo Gainey and the late Dora Mae Robinson Gainey. She transitioned to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro.

Bertha was a graduate of Bowman High School and attended Wilfred Academy, Anson School of Cosmetology and Sout Piedmont Community College.

She worked as a cosmetologist and nurse in her early years and later owned and operated an alteration shop in uptown Wadesboro.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, Floyd Kenneth McManus, Jr. and She’la Ebony-Sherrie McManus both of Wadesboro; her God-grandson, Cayden Price; her sisters, Beverly Ann Gainey, Elaine Gainey Grant, Kimberly Dora Gainey; her aunts and uncles, Peggy Simon (Bobby), Rufus Gainey, Edward Robinson, Bertha Ratliff, and Paulette Robinson; her dear friend who was like a sister, Heryzin Baskerville; her nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was a member of Believers Christian Center in Wadesboro where she was a member of the praise dance team and intercessory prayer group.

She loved doing hair, sewing, praying for people, taking care of children, cooking for her family, and sharing the Word of God of TikTok Live. She was always ready to learn something new.

In her high school years, she loved playing softball tennis, basketball and karate.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, niece and friend.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Darlene Gaddy (Cordell), Teresa Laverne “Re” Thomas, and Angela “Binky” Gainey; her maternal grandparents, Allen and Doretha Robinson; her paternal grandparents, James Gainey, Sr. and Viola H. Gainey and her uncle, Charles Robinson.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 16, 2026, 1:00pm at Believers Christian Center in Wadesboro.

The family will greet friends on Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 12:30-1:00pm at Believers Christian Center.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leavitt Funeral Home, PO Box 274, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or by selecting the make a payment option on the funeral home website to assist with funeral expenses.
