Betty Lou was an active member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro for more than 50 years.  She was a member of the chancel choir, handbell choir, and loved ministering in the children’s sermon rotations and Sunday school.

She also enjoyed being a part of the Red Hat’s and Bookies book club. She was an avid bridge and pinochle player and was a part of several bridge clubs in Wadesboro and Chesterfield. Betty volunteered as a Long-Term Care Ombudsman for Anson County.  She loved to spend time and care for her 10 grandchildren.  Betty was a caregiver by nature, and made everyone she met feel nurtured and loved.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Dan (Amy) Cromartie of Davidson, LuAnne Cromartie Murphy of Aberdeen, Mike (Traci) Horne of Forest, VA and Chad (Kim) Horne of Polkton; her grandchildren, Beth Horne of Cary, Morgan (Braxton) Pfaff of Forest, VA, Savannah Cromartie of Charlotte, Madison Horne (Cooper McCaw, Fiancé) of Forest, VA, Adam Horne (Harley Taylor, Fiancé) of Polkton, Nicholas Murphy of Raleigh, Steven Cromartie of Boone, Courtney Horne of Forest, VA, Miles Murphy of Chapel Hill and Preston House of Aberdeen; her great-grandson, Thatcher Michael Pfaff; her friend and companion, Ernie Pusser of Chesterfield, SC and his son, John (Kayla) Pusser of Elgin, SC; her cousin, who was much like a sister, Teena (Alex) Hatcher of Henderson; her sisters-in-law, Rosa Horne of Peachland, Reva Carpenter of Marshville and Jan (Mike) Smith of Knoxville, TN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Angus Cromartie and Douglas Horne and by her granddaughter, Kimberly Diane Horne.

The family will have a memory box at the visitation and funeral. If you would like to share what Betty meant to you, a personal story, or memory, the family would love for you to bring it and drop it in the box when you arrive.
