WADESBORO – On Sunday, July 12, 2026, Mr. Billy Ruth Funderburke, 68, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, July 16, 2026, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Billy was born May 7, 1958, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late James Lee Funderburke and the late Betty Ruth Tyson Funderburke. He was a graduate of Anson High School and had been employed with the McLaurin Center in Hamlet.
He was a longtime member of the Poplar Hill United Methodist Church in Polkton. He loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed playing with them and entertaining them when they were small. He loved people and never met a stranger. He knew and loved everyone, and everyone loved Billy.
Billy was a huge fan of The Dukes of Hazzard. He enjoyed races, cars, and trucks. He also enjoyed listening to country music.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his brothers and sister, Tim Funderburke (Lou) of Polkton, Betty Ann F. Duncan of Knightdale, and Fred Funderburke (Debbie) of Hamlet; his nephews and nieces, Robbie Funderburke (Le’Tashia), Matthew Davis (Cheryl), Jennifer Brown (Ryan), Amanda Beller (David), Dustin Funderburke (Lindsay), Jamie Funderburke (Katie), Jeremy Funderburke (Stephanie) and Tyler Funderburke; his great-nephews and great-nieces, T.J. (McKensie), Abigail, Liam, Grant, Grayson, Riley, Charlie, Duncan, Lucy Mae, Bonnie and Bayla; his great-great-nephews, Oakley; and his aunts and uncle, Nancy McMillan (Jimmy), Janie Randall, Dot Fitton, Smokey Tyson (Catherine), and Katherine Tyson and his cousins and their families from both the Tyson and Funderburke families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Funderburke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Poplar Hill United Methodist Church, c/o Emily Carpenter, 720 Ross Wright Rd., Polkton, NC 28135.
