Brenda Brown McCormick

 

            LILESVILLE – Following a courageous battle with cancer and a beautiful life, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and friend, Brenda Brown McCormick, 72, peacefully joined her Lord and Savior and many dear loved ones in heaven.

 

            There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Walden officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

            The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Lilesville.

 

            Brenda was born July 17, 1951, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Morris Leroy Brown and the late Frances Usrey Brown Tarlton. She was a 1969 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville. She also graduated from Butler Cosmetology School in Albemarle and worked for several years as a hairstylist.

 

            She later furthered her education at Anson Community College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for nearly 15 years at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center in Wadesboro, which is now Anson Health and Rehab.

 

            Brenda was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church for many years, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and assisted with Vacation Bible School.

 

            An excellent cook, a gift she learned from her mother, she was also an accomplished seamstress. She dearly loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and trips to the beach. Her family and friends were among her greatest blessings. Her faith and positive outlook on life has sustained her throughout her journey.

 

            Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Shannon Benton and husband, Walter, Jennifer McCormick and Josh McCormick all of Lilesville; her grandchildren, Justice McCormick and wife, Kaleigh of Hillsborough, Maidson Honeycutt and husband, Cruz of Wadesboro and Eli Benton and Jordan McCormick both of Lilesville; her great-grandchild, Kolstyn McCormick; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Alan Poe and Lynn and Steve Whitlock both of Lilesville; her aunt, Vickey Clark of Lilesville; her special friend, Larry Freeman of Cheraw, SC and her nieces and nephews and their families.

 

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William Lee Brown and Morris Ray Brown.

 

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church, Youth Ministry, c/o, Sarah Harrington, 1364 Hailey’s Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
