Miss Carolyn Sue Davis, 57, died Saturday, August 28, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews. There will be a memorial service at 6:00pm Tuesday, August 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Goudelock officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 5:00pm until time for the memorial service at the funeral home. Carolyn was born November 29, 1953 in Robeson County, NC a daughter of the late Lois Vivian Brigman Davis and the late Wade Thad Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Vicky Lynn Davis and Steven Wade Davis. She was a graduate of Bowman High School, Class of 1972 and attended Western Carolina University and later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with her degree in elementary education. Among her accomplishments as an educator, she completed the requirement to become a National Board Certified Educator. Many lives have been touched by her 32 year career in elementary education at Mt. Gilead Elementary School, where she taught both first and third grades. Surviving are her cousin, Jimmy 'Red' Britt and wife, Judie of Charlotte and her dearest friend and sister at heart, Wanda Hinson Morton and husband, Craig of Troy and their daughter, who was considered Carolyn's God-daughter, Ashley Morton of Raleigh and her long-time childhood friends, Nancy 'Fig' Avrette, Karen Diggs and Debbie Cox. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Gilead Elementary School, School Supply Fund, 100 School St., Mt. Gilead, NC 27306 or to Montgomery County Humane Society, 1150 Okeewemee Rd., Troy, NC 27371. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
