Charlotte Sherman Rogers

WADESBORO – On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Mrs. Charlotte Sherman Rogers, 82, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Brown Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church and other times at the home.

Charlotte was born May 25, 1941, in Seagraves, TX and was a daughter of the late Walter Warren Sherman and the late Betty Nell Dunham Sherman. Because her father was an oil driller their family moved often for his work. Throughout her life, she lived in Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana and she was proud to say she was a native Texan.

She graduated high school in Lake Charles, LA and it was in Lake Charles where she met a young man from Wadesboro, Brady Harold Rogers, stationed there with the United States Air Force. They were married there in Lake Charles and their honeymoon was a trip back home to Wadesboro for her to meet the Rogers family. In 1962, Harold and Charlotte moved back to Wadesboro to live and raise their family.

Charlotte learned to play the piano by responding to an ad in a magazine for learning the piano on your own. She did that for a while and had a few lessons in person. She and a friend worked on their piano lessons together and she started playing the piano for a mission church in Edinburg, TX. It was then she started her service as a church musician. Edinburg always remained to be a special place in her life.

After she and Harold moved to Wadesboro, she began playing the piano for Brown Creek Baptist Church and until her health declined, she continued to serve the church as organist.

Charlotte accepted Christ as her savior during a Billy Graham Crusade in Oklahoma City, OK in the 1950’s.

Her professional career was that of type setter with the Messenger and Intelligencer Newspaper and the Anson Record Newspaper in Wadesboro for many years and she later worked in the office for Sandhills Center for Mental Health in Wadesboro.

She enjoyed gardening and freezing and canning the vegetables. She would assist her husband with their cattle farm and raising chickens. She also enjoyed ceramics, quilting and playing the guitar. Traveling was among her favorite past times whether that would be to visit Texas, her family out West or annual beach trips with her family in the summer.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, of nearly 63 years, Harold Rogers; her daughters, Kelly Flake, Amy Hayes and Meri Beth Wright (Danny); her grandchildren, Darrell Marsh (Emily), Dusty Marsh (Carey), Jack Flake, Rachel-Lea Flake, JR Hayes (Sydney), Brad Hayes (Kacie), Trent Hayes (fiancée Olivia), Autumn Hayes, Jordan Wright, Liberty Wright, Maddie Wright, and Davis Wright; her great-grandchildren, Walter, Isaac, Stephanie, Samuel, Westin and Olivia Marsh and Tripp and Keegan Hayes; her brother, Sam Sherman (Sandy); her sisters-in-law, Barbara Sherman, Arvonia Edwards, Doris Bennett (Neil) and Beth Smith (Smitty); her beloved dog, Troy and her nieces and nephews and their families all of whom she loved dearly.
