WADESBORO  - Claude Richard Gregory, 85, of Wadesboro, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living in Southern Pines. Richard was born July 11, 1941, in Anson County, NC, and a son of the late John Dawson Gregory and the late Josie Williams Gregory. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections.

Richard was born on July 11, 1941, in Wadesboro. He lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of many. He had a true passion for a good golf game and for watching his North Carolina Tar Heels.

He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jody Rayfield Gregory, who passed away on October 24, 2016. Jody’s death was felt profoundly by him. You didn’t have a conversation with him in which he didn’t speak of “his Jody” and how he was looking forward to seeing her again one day.

A graveside service to honor Richard will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Eastview Cemetery in Wadesboro.

He is survived by his niece, Penny Moore Cox (Brian), his sisters, Lou Moore of Wadesboro and Margie Ashby of Hamlet.

He was also predeceased by his siblings, Pauline Gregory, Irene Williams, Kurt Gregory, J.D. Gregory and Earl Gregory, along with several other nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Magnolia Gardens Assisted Living for the loving manner in which they cared for Richard in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the Anson County Animal Shelter, c/o, Stephanie Phifer, . 6707 Lawyers Rd E, Marshville, NC 28103.
