Mr. Claude Eugene 'Sonny' Steele, Jr., 73, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Hospice of Union County, Monroe. Graveside services will be 2:00pm Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Anson Memorial Park with Rev. Johnny Johnson and Rev. W.T. 'Bo' Treadaway officiating. The family will greet friends Friday from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home. Sonny was born in Anson County, NC June 24, 1938 a son of the late Claude Eugene and Rosie Belk Adams Steele. He was retired from West Knitting Mills. Surviving are his wife, Lois Jones Steel of Wadesboro; his children, Jeffrey (Lisa) Steele and Deloris (Ellis) Carpenter both of Wadesboro and Tony (Sharon) Steele of Rockingham; his brothers and sisters, Virgil Steele, Eddie B. Steele and Peggy Trexler all of Wadesboro, Biven Steele of Lilesville and Margie Thompson of Polkton; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandchid and 6 step-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Claudia Steele Burr; by a sister, Mary Grace Jones and by a step-gandson. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
