Colin Byford Glover of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, October 2nd, 2026, at the age of 47 due to an unexpected complication from his intense battle with aggressive cancer. Always a warrior (and pretty stubborn), he fought hard until the very end.
Colin was a fierce protector. He was a tremendous husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandson, cousin, and friend. He loved his family intensely and put others before himself, even while he was sick.
Proudly born in Duncan, Oklahoma, Colin lived an incredibly full life. He loved sports and competition, from getting dirty playing catcher in little league to high school football in Katy, Texas, to coaching his son’s wrestling team.
As a member of the United States Marine Corp, he served with duty, honor, and courage for eight years, first as artillery meteorologist and then deployment for two tours as an intelligence specialist.
Colin loved loud music, cooking, fishing, the outdoors, The Lord of the Rings, science (especially physics), Pete Rose, John Wayne, OU Sooners football, Die Hard, and putting his all into every pursuit.
But most of all, he loved his family, particularly his wonderful and devoted wife of eighteen years, Effie, who supported him as a military spouse and through his final battles; and his kind, intelligent teenage son, Matthew, who carries on his legacy of strength and resilience.
A brilliant thinker, Colin earned multiple advanced degrees in engineering and worked as cybersecurity director for the government. He had a passion for reading that he got from his mom. He loved knowledge and, the thicker the book, the better.
Tough as heck and independent, he was also incredibly kind, incredibly caring, and intent on protecting the ones he loved and cared about. Colin was a blessing to everyone around him.
Greeting him will be his grandparents, Peggy and ML Rodgers; Floyd and Ida Mae Glover; Odell and Carolyn Byford; father-in-law John Nicholson; uncle Jerry Don Glover; aunt and uncle, Kelly and Jayne Byford; and cousin, Chris Glover.
He is survived by his wife, Effie; son, Matthew Lindell (ML); parents, Diana and Walter Glover; mother-in-law Corinne Nicholson; sister Shannon Robinette and her husband, Jim; brother Jonathan and his wife, Tracy, their children Kyle and Reagan; brother Robin and his wife, Eileen; brother-in-law, John Harvey Nicholson, his children, Cassidy and Zachary Nicholson; and aunt and uncles, Cindy and Steve Byford; Cindy and Rick Henderson; cousins, Alex Glover; Daniel Headrick; Joe Byford; Lauren and Brock Henderson; Justin and Eric Byford; and many other beloved friends and relatives who think the world of him.
Colin will be dearly missed.
