David Eugene Napier

POLKTON – On Sunday, October 19, 2025, Mr. David Eugene Napier, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, shed his tired and worn body at Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to forever play his music with the heavenly choirs and musicians.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday, October 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hill and Rev. Leon Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Cemetery.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

David was born January 4, 1940, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Earl Wright Napier and the late Ann Morgan Napier. He was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Following in the footsteps of his father, David worked with Seaboard Coastline Railroad, which later became CSX Railroad, retiring with more than 40 years of service.

He loved music and at the age of 6, he received his first guitar at Christmas. He taught himself to play the guitar while developing a deep love for music. Often neighbors driving by would see him walking in the front yard strumming his guitar. He also mastered other instruments as well, including the pedal steel guitar.

He enjoyed making music with his friends in and around Anson County creating local groups to share their gifts of music, one of which was called “The Gospel Strings”. David always wanted to end their times together by playing the beautiful hymn, “Amazing Grace”.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Judy Gaddy Napier; their daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Greg Lee of Polkton, Susan and Robbie Trexler of Wadesboro and Amy Napier of Polkton; their grandchildren, Ashton Lee Allen and husband, Zack of Polkton, Jordan Lee of Polkton, Sarah Rose Trexler Massinople and husband, Will of Raleigh and Aaron Trexler of Norwood; his sister-in-law, Bennie Napier of Polkton and his nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Napier and by his brother and sister, Donnie Napier and Libby Williams and husband, Johnny.
