WADESBORO – On Friday, July 25, 2025, Mrs. Dena Cowick Grice, 59, loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully at their family mountain home in Maggie Valley with her loving family at her bedside.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder, officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the funeral home and other times at the home of her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, 365 NC HWY 742 S, Wadesboro beginning Saturday, July 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 7:00 PM until the funeral on Wednesday.
Dena was born January 3, 1966, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Charles Edward Cowick and the late Shelby Jean Gooden Cowick Whitaker. She was a graduate of Bowman High School, class of 1984.
She had a long career in textiles, having worked for many years as an artist with Wansona-Wul-Zinco Manufacturing in Wadesboro and lastly working with Medical Specialties in Wadesboro.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her husband of 43 years, Jimmy Grice; her children, Tommy Grice (Stephen) of Maggie Valley and Ashley Chapman of Morven; her grandsons, James “JT” Chapman and Drew Chapman both of Morven; her brother, Tim Cowick of Myrtle Beach, SC; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Arra Jean Lane of Morganton, Maggie Powell of Wadesboro, Linda Taylor (Andy) of Wadesboro, Jerry Grice (Mary Jo) of South Bend, IN and Carlyn Cowick of Wadesboro; her beloved dogs, Scrappy, Benny and Rose; and her nieces and nephews and their families.
Dena enjoyed gardening, traveling, spending time at their mountain home, taking care of her dogs, and spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Steve Cowick and Darrell Cowick and her step-father, Gene Whitaker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731
