On Monday, August 18, 2025, Mrs. Diana Simon Crowder, age 77, heard the voice of Jesus say “come home my child” and He sent His Angels to escort her from her earthly tent to that building not made with hands but eternal in the heavens at Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro.
Diana was born March 4, 1948 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late James Thomas Simon and the late Cassie Bell Ratliff Simon. She was educated in the Anson County Public School System and was a 1966 graduate of Deep Creek High School. She was a homemaker.
She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the membership of West Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church where generations of her family worshipped and are laid to rest.
She was united in marriage to Dewitt Crowder and they were blessed with 5 children.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Angelia Crowder and Quinta Crowder both of Wadesboro, NC; her sons, Mitchell Crowder of Wadesboro, NC and Dewayne (Diana) Crowder of Albemarle, NC; Kelsey Young of Thomasville, NC, who she raised liked a daughter; her grandchildren, Tyrone Crowder, Kadesia Crowder, Wayne Watson, Alexis Gainey, Tyrell Crowder, Rickasia Liles, and Emmanuel Crowder; her 2 great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Pearson of Wilmington, NC; her brothers, Kenneth (Judy) Simon of Morven, NC, Nebraska Simon (Diane) of Columbia, SC her sister, Virginia May Greene; her sisters-in-law, Nezzie Simon of Monroe, NC, Deborah Grace and Mary Gaddy both of Wadesboro, NC, Willie Ree Young of Greensboro, NC, Larrice Miller of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Doris E. Wilson of Charlotte, NC; her brothers-in-law, Freeman Crowder (Annie) of Lilesville, NC, McAlister Crowder (Lillie) and Clifford Crowder both of Wadesboro, NC, and Alfred Crowder of Raleigh, NC and Loil Covington, Jr. (Sonya) of Charlotte, NC; a son of the heart, Ricky Rhodes of Wadesboro, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewitt Crowder; her son, Carl Lewitt Crowder; and her sisters and brothers, Lee, Collie, T Willie, Snap, Paul, Bill, Charles, Margie, Barbara, Lois and Ester Lee.
Diana will be remembered for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Most of all, she was and will always be a child of God and she loved to sing His praises whenever she had the opportunity. She believed in making a joyful noise unto the Lord.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 23, 2025 at West Deep Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The public viewing will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 22, 2025 at Leavitt Funeral Home.
The family is gathering at the home on Sycamore Street in Wadesboro.
