WADESBORO - Mr. Donald Lee 'Donnie' Cook, 62, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Celebration Hospital in Celebration, FL. Funeral services with military honors will be 11:00AM Friday, January 6, 2011 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Hunter, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at a later date. The family will greet friends Thursday, January 5, 2011 from 6:30pm until 8:30pm at the funeral home and other times at the home. Donnie was born March 9, 1949 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Fred Wade Cook and Wincie Usrey Cook. He owned and operated the Corner Market in Morven for 17 years. He was always willing to help the citizens of Morven in any way he could and especially enjoyed the fellowship with his friends and customers there. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War and was very proud of his service to his country. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Shaw Cook of the home; his daughters, Amanda (Jeff) Burr of Lilesville, Monica (Donald) Polston, Allison Cook and Jessica Coleman all of Wadesboro; his grandchildren, Morgan, Aubrey, Sarah and Mackay Burr all of Lilesville and Hailey, Noah and Annie Brock all of Wadesboro; and his brother and sister, Joe (Nena) Cook of Monroe and Barbara Coggin of Wadesboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddie and Ricky Cook and by his step-daughter, Ashley Coleman. Although a very quiet man to many, he would be honest in sharing his thoughts and feelings. He embodied a very generous and giving heart and was a devoted son, as well as, a good and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Youth Department, P.O. Box 423, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
