Earl Hedrick Usrey, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 30 2026 surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Anson County, North Carolina, on June 30, 1937, Earl was the son of the late James Earl Usrey and Lucille Hedrick Usrey. He was a proud graduate of Lilesville High School and lived a life defined by service, hard work, and love of family.
Following high school, Earl enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he faithfully served his country for 22 years. During his distinguished military career, he rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and served during both the Korean and Vietnam War eras. His service took him throughout the United States and abroad, creating memories and experiences that shaped a lifetime of stories and friendships.
After retiring from the Air Force, Earl embarked on a successful and fulfilling career in the heavy equipment industry. Known for his strong work ethic, mechanical skills, and practical wisdom, he earned the respect of colleagues and friends throughout his career.
While Earl valued his military service and professional accomplishments, his greatest passions were found outside of work. He loved spending time on the water bass fishing, enjoying the freedom of riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and making memories with his grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than being "Grandpa”.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Loueen Price Usrey, and by his twin brother, James Frederick Usrey.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Sandra Christine Usrey and her husband, Brian Naumuk of Asheville, North Carolina; his granddaughters, Briana Elayni Naumuk, 26, of Easley, South Carolina, and Darcy Paige Naumuk, 24, of Sylva, North Carolina; along with extended family members and many friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and humble presence.
Services will be private and interment will be at Savannah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lilesville.
