          POLKTON – On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with his family gathered nearby, Mr. Edward Felix Thompson, 82, went to be at home with his Lord while being cared for at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe.

            Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Red Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Clements and Rev. Larry Rutledge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

            The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

            Felix was born January 24, 1941, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Edward Thompson and the late Geneva High Thompson. He was a graduate of Ansonville High School.

            He worked in floor covering sales and installation for more than 52 years and he and his wife retired from their business in Polkton, Thompson Floor Covering in 2013.

            Felix was a faithful member of Red Hill Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon, sang in both the choir and men’s ensemble, a member of the Brotherhood and Good News Sunday school class. He dearly loved his church family.

            He also enjoyed talking on his Ham radio, coaching parks and recreation basketball and serving as a basketball official.

            It is no secret that Felix married his childhood sweetheart. He and Betty Gray Thomas started dating when they were 15 and 16. They were married August 15, 1959, and were blessed with a beautiful marriage and wonderful family.

            Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Gray Thomas Thompson; his children, Phil Thompson (Dixie) of Monroe, Jeff Thompson (Tammy) of Midland and Crystal Bowles (Dean) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Jamie Parker (Allison) of Charlotte, Chase Thompson and Brent Thompson both of Monroe, Nicole Bowles of Rockingham, Phillip Bowles (Courtney) of Wrightsville Beach, Abigail Bowles of Wilmington, Andy Kiker of Charlotte, Austin Kiker of Midland and Susan Kiker of Locust; his great-grandchildren, Tanner, Connor and Matty Parker, Gage Thompson and Landon and Meredith Honeycutt; his sister, Sara “Sis” Little of Oakboro; his sister-in-law, Jenny Thompson of Hamlet; his brothers-in-law, Charles Thomas (Carol) of Wilmington and Randy Thomas (Peggy) of Chadbourn and his nieces and nephews and their families.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Thompson and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne “Bud” Little, Billy Frank Thomas, and Chis Gross.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church Brotherhood, c/o, Stephanie Maner, P.O. Box 207, Ansonville, NC 28007.

            Felix’s family is most grateful for the outpouring of love and concern for him during his time of declining health, especially to their Red Hill Church Family and to Hospice of Union County.
