             WADESBORO – On Sunday, January 7, 2024, Mrs. Elizabeth Gaddy Huntley, 92, passed away peacefully at Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro.

 

            There will be a memorial service at 11:00 AM Friday, January 12, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro with Rev. Stacey Lundy officiating. The burial will be private in Anson Memorial Park.

 

            The family will greet friends following the service at a reception in the church fellowship hall.

 

            Miss Lib, as she was affectionately called by so many, was born July 26, 1931, in Anson County and was a daughter of the late David Eugene Gaddy and the late Lilly Shepherd Gaddy. She was a graduate of Deep Creek High School and earned a bachelor's degree in education from East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, of which her mother was in the second graduating class of ECTC.

 

            A long and meaningful career in childhood education, she first taught at Lilesville School, Little Folks Kindergarten, and Central School, retiring with 30 years of teaching first grade Many of her students still remember Miss Lib fondly. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

 

            Miss Lib was a long-time and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Wadesboro where she sang in the chancel choir for many years, member of the handbell choir, United Methodist Women, the Energizers Senior Group, and pianist for the Wesley Bible Class for 45 years.

 

            She often served as substitute organist and pianist for various churches in the community and was often called on to play for funerals. She never turned down an opportunity to share her gift of music.

 

            She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Bob Blalock of Wadesboro; her sisters, Mary Shepherd Trexler of Wadesboro and Sue Durham of Apex; her sister-in-law, Dot Gaddy; her caregivers who were just like family to her for the past 5 years, Emogene Cash, Jackie Little and Tammy Flowers, and the family is most grateful for their love and care for her; and her nieces and nephews and their families.

 

            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Frank “Shine” Huntley and her brothers and sister, William Marshall Gaddy, Joe Gaddy, and Emma Jean Gilbert.

 

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 118 E. Morgan St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
