PEACHLAND – On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Mrs. Elizabeth “Lib” Hartsell Edwards, 94, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family gathered by.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 28, 2025, at New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Baucom officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Lib was born May 6, 1931, in Stanly County, NC and was a daughter of the late Alvin Ray Hartsell and the late Ola Coble Hartsell. She was a graduate of Oakboro High School. She worked alongside her husband in their family business and excelled in her other roles as homemaker and mother.
She was a faithful member of New Home Baptist Church for many years.
Lib, known as Ma to the family, was an inspiration to all. Whether helping her husband daily with the turkey farm, working a big garden, canning and freezing food, mowing the yard, or perfecting her craft as an accomplished seamstress, she was no stranger to hard work. She could be found keeping and loving grandchildren, great, and great-great-grandchildren, cooking delicious meals for the family from scratch or baking a perfectly delectable cake. She was simply leading a life full of selfless love for her family and community.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, Pam Mills and Mike Edwards and wife, Beverly of Peachland; her daughter-in-law, Judy Edwards of Peachland; her grandchildren, Chad Mills, Lindsay Marshall, Chris Edwards and wife, Tonda and Candace Lamonds and husband, Tracy all of Peachland, Betsy Cox and husband, Michael of Marshville and David Edwards and wife, Caty of Wadesboro; 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edsel Edwards, her son, Dane Edwards and her brother, Jerry Hartsell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Home Baptist Church, P.O. Box 72, Marshville, NC 28103.
Lib is now in her eternal home because of her trust in our Lord. We know her deepest wish was for all to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and join her one day in Heaven.
The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
