Faye Blalock Gathings

WADESBORO – On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Mrs. Faye Blalock Gathings, 90, passed away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe with her loving family at her bedside.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Deep Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Perko officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Friday, June 12, 2026, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Faye was born July 17, 1935, in Stanly County, NC and was a daughter of the late Benton Fetzer Blalock and the late Julia Annie Burris Blalock. She retired from West Knitting Mills with more than 22 years of service.

She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church since 1962 where she had served as a Sunday school teacher.

Faye was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and a friend to many. Her home was always open to her family and friends to visit and share times of fellowship at any time. Mimmie’s Mansion, as the grandchildren called it, was a house full of love for all who visited.

She enjoyed working in word search books, watching game shows and time spent on the front porch in her rocking chair.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, Billy Gathings, Patty Ratliff (Anthony), Peggy Hooks (Billy), Danny Gathings (Ellen) Tammy Timmons (Lany Baker) all of Wadesboro; her grandchildren, Brian Gathings, Kevin Gathings (Pam), Matthew Dennis (Kristi), Bud Ratliff (Kim), Damien Ratliff, Bill Hooks (Heather), Kimberly Burr, Sarah Gathings, and Amanda Timmons; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren (and one on the way); her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas “Tuck” Gathings (Lynda), Joyce Gathings, and Barbara Gathings; special family friends, Terry “Punk” and Danny Wright, Danielle and Franklin McAllister, Pam Tarlton, Jennifer Tarlton and Jimmy and Jean Flake; and her nieces and nephews from both the Blalock and Gathings families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Gathings; her daughter-in-law, Jilla Dennis Gathings and by her brothers, Hyatt Blalock, Rembert Blalock, Benton Blalock, George Blalock, and Troy Blalock.

The family is most grateful to Centerwell Home Care and Staff for the excellent care they provided her over the past few years and most recently to Hospice of Union County and McWhorter Hospice House Staff for their care given to her and the family.
