We are posting the obituary for Mr. Flave O. Edwards as a courtesy to his family who have been longtime residents of the Burnsville Community in Polkton. We offer our sincere condolences to his family.

Flave Olen Edwards, passed peacefully on May 29, 2026, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, surrounded by his wife of 75 years, Barbara and his loving daughter, Teresa. He was 96 years old.

Flave was born in Polkton, North Carolina, in the Barnsville community of Anson County. He is the youngest of six children born to Jesse Edwards and Minnie Parker. The family were avid farmers. Flave began his love of vehicles by driving school buses in his hometown. He graduated to driving trucks hauling lumber for various companies in North and South Carolina between harvest times on the family farm. Flave eventually left his home place to venture to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he joined his two older brothers, Benton and Klein. He began work driving a truck at Southern Biscuit Company. It was there he met his soulmate, Barbara. They married in 1950 and began a very happy domestic life. They welcomed a son, Richard Max Edwards and later their daughter, Teresa. Flave purchased his own trucks and began a company which he fostered for many years. He also worked for many trucking companies through the years, including New Dixie Lines and Colonial Motor Freight. He ended his career working for Southeastern Freight Lines taking over the Charlotte terminal. It was a small operation at the time, but with Flave's solid background in the trucking business it became the largest terminal in the company's fleet second only to the Atlanta terminal at the time of his departure.

Flave spent his retirement years enjoying his family and tending his yard and plants. He and Barbara also always enjoyed their vacation homes in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and eventually moved there. Flave is survived by his wife, Barbara and daughter, Teresa. He is predeceased in death by his son, Richard Max.

A graveside service will be held for Flave at 11:00am, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.
