Freddie Singleton, Jr.

Washington, DC - Freddie Singleton, Jr. was born September 20, 1952 in Florence, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie Singleton, Sr. (2014) and Eva Singleton (2013), and stepmother, Ada Ford Singleton (1998). Fred was the third child and only son of six children. He died in his apartment in Washington, DC after a lengthy disability. Freddie, Jr. began elementary school in Florence, S.C. but completed his education in Anson County Schools when the family moved to Wadesboro, N.C. Freddie, Jr.'s spiritual life began when his stepmother put him and his siblings in church (First Baptist, Ballard Street). He sang on the youth choir and participated in youth activities. During his high school years Freddie Jr. was recruited as an apprentice by Mr. Everett Baker (Anson Well Drilling) whose shop was located next door to our residence. He was a hardworking young man. After graduating from Bowman High School he worked at several school systems and nursing homes in North and South Carolina. Freddie, Jr. married Sharon Powell in 1982 and became stepfather to Lavonia Byrd (now Lavonna Joseph) and DeAngelo Byrd. They later divorced; he did not remarry. When Freddie, Jr. moved to Washington, D.C. he completed courses to earn a certificate in welding and an engineering license while working at the Grant Park Care Center. At Grant Park he met Juanita Cunningham with whom he had a lengthy relationship before she moved back to South Carolina. Freddie Jr. renewed his relationship with Jesus Christ and the Lord became his Friend and the Joy of his life! He visited several churches in his neighborhood before his health further deteriorated but was not led to join any. He was devoted to the teaching ministry of Charles Stanley (TV and In Touch magazine). He honored God through tithing and his personal testimony to others about God's goodness!! Freddie Jr. spent the last ten years in and out of hospitals and had a lengthy stay in a nursing home in 2015. He is now free of illness and is in the presence of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Freddie Singleton, Jr.'s memory will be cherished by his five sisters: Mary Craft (Barnett), Freddie Mae Bennett (Albert), Evelyn Brown, Joanne Price (Ulysses), and Sandra Singleton; three nieces (Latrice Lyons, LaSaundra Ibrahim, Felicia Brown); six nephews (Frederick Singleton, Albert Bennett, Jr., Antoine Craft, Kevin Craft, Johnathan Price, Nathan Price). His great-nieces and great-nephews will miss getting to know their great-uncle. Freddie, Jr. will be remembered by Charles Ford and his family, neighbors, and the many persons whose path Fred crossed. Like his father, Fred believed everybody is somebody! The funeral services are scheduled for Monday, July 9, 2018 and are private.
