LILESVILLE – On Wednesday, May 5, 2021, Mr. Freddy Ray Goodwin, 74, of Holden Beach and Lilesville, went to be with the Lord at the home of his daughter in Oak Island, with his wife, daughter and granddaughter by his bedside. Funeral services will be 4:00pm Saturday, May 8, 2021 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Savannah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home Freddy was born April 16, 1947 in Caribou, Maine and was the second child born to the late Mack Neal Goodwin, Sr. and the late Mona Miller Goodwin. His maternal grandparents were Clara Kearney Miller and Gary Ivan Miller and his paternal grandparents were Ida Jane Best Goodwin and Henry Goodwin. In 1960, his family moved to Lilesville when he was in the eighth grade. Freddy was a member of Forestville United Methodist Church and grew up in the Forestville Community playing ball, fishing, hunting and working summers at Jay and Hazel Chewning’s produce stand. He was a 1965 graduate of Anson High School and worked at Abby Manufacturing in Wadesboro prior to retiring from Duff Norton in Wadesboro with 35 years of service. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Mary Ellen Goodwin; their only child, Gwendolen Anne and husband, James Dallas Ratliff; their grandchildren, Caroline Spencer Ratliff, Neal Scott Carpenter and Ross Jonathan Carpenter, who were Freddy’s most loved; his brother and sisters, John W. Goodwin of Wadesboro, Sandra G. Martin of Rockingham, Betty G. (Eddie) Gilmore of Lilesville and Barbara G. McDuffie of Kannapolis; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Millie G. (Jerry) Burkett of Kannapolis and Donnie Goodwin of Rockingham and his nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mack Neal Goodwin, Jr., his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sadie Downer Goodwin and Joe Sharpe Goodwin and his sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beverly G. Freeman, Buddy Goodwin, Mike Goodwin and Kress Goodwin. Serving as pallbearers for the service will be, Timothy Goodwin, Chuck Polson, Stephen Goodwin, Xander Williams, John Goodwin, Jr., Wayne Barber, Jimmy Freeman and Michael Freeman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forestville United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Joanne Clark 1781 Clark Mountain Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
