LILESVILLE - On Thursday, June 5, 2025 with his loving family gathered at his bedside, Mr. George Carroll Hodge, 77, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

There will be a memorial service at 4:00 PM Saturday, June 7, 2025 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service.

George was born September 18, 1947 in Fairmont, NC and was a son of the late Sam Grady Hodge and the late Inez Mishue Hodge. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from his military service at which time he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He had varied employment experiences which included truck driving along with his wife and retiring from BV Hedrick Sand and Gravel.

George was a faithful member of Forestville United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees which included, the cemetery committee, parsonage committee, building and grounds and any other way in which he could be of service. To say he loved his church and church family is an understatement.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Mary Lou Goodwin Hodge; his children, Trena Martin (Rob) of Gastonia, Annie Bergseng (Leslie) of Kershaw, SC, Georgette Rummel (Jon) of Deland, FL, Keith Huneycutt and Scotty Huneycutt (Tanjie) both of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Teddy Martin (Courtney) of Boiling Springs, SC, Elizabeth Kulkarni (Sujay) of Baltimore, MD, Logan Hazel (Alex) of Deland, FL, Alexandria Connelly (Tim) of Ruby, SC, Madison Thomas (Bailey) of Daytona, FL, Nicholas Ratley, Joey Bergseng (Abby) of Catawba, Grady Bergseng (Madison) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Travis Huneycutt and Trevor Huneycutt both of Lilesville, Greg Huneycutt (Callie) of Southern Pines and Justin Huneycutt of Herndon, VA , Jamie Webb of Wadesboro and Jessica Webb of Lilesville; his great-grandchildren, Chase Martin, Aurora Martin, Dawson Dickerhoff, Grayson Dickerhoff, Waylon Connelly, Andie Huneycutt, Merrit Huneycutt and Caleb Webb; his brother, Dayton Hodge (Janet) of White Oak; his sister, Betty Martin of Norfolk, VA and Patricia White (Rudy) of St. Paul; and his sister-in-law, Rhonda Hodge of Tarheel.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Buddy Hodge, Jerry Wayne Hodge, and Phillip Hodge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place • Memphis, TN 38105 or to Forestville United Methodist Church, Western NC Hurricane Relief, c/o Joanne Clark, 1781 Clark Mtn. Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
