WADESBORO – On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Mrs. Harriet Rivers Brower, 84, passed away at Brookdale Memory Care in Monroe, NC. She was diagnosed with dementia two years ago and our merciful God took her home and gave her peace.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Harriet was born December 21, 1940, in Chester, SC and was a daughter of the late Louis C. Rivers and the late Isabel Murphy Rivers. When she was two years old, her family moved to Wadesboro.

She was a 1959 graduate of Wadesboro High School and a 1963 graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh with a major in business administration along with a secondary education teaching certificate. Upon graduation in 1963, she married R.L. Horne and worked for Duke Power Company in Raleigh. They later moved to Cheraw, SC and their first daughter, Kristin was born. After three years in Cheraw, SC, her family moved to Wadesboro and their second daughter, Kathy was born.

Harriet, a well-respected and admired teacher, her career spanned 28 years. She first taught in Cheraw, SC and the remainder of her teaching was with Anson County Schools. She was a role model for her students and many still remember her fondly to this day. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, teacher’s sorority.

A longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro, she had been a member of the adult handbell choir, the Friendship Sunday School Class and served on the finance committee.

She was an avid bridge player and played with several bridge groups in Wadesboro. She was also an avid UNC Tarheel Basketball fan.

In 2001, she married Robert L. Brower, and they were blessed with two loving families and many grandchildren. Robert has been a tireless and loving caregiver over the past two years of her illness.

Harriet leaves behind her husband of nearly 24 years, Robert L. Brower; her daughters, Kristin Horne Park and Katherine Horne Caudle; her stepsons, Todd Brower (Kelly) and Scott Brower (Misty); her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Bill Dickson; her grandchildren, Kathryn McRae, Alan Dale McRae (Ashley), Caylan Caudle, Ian Caudle, Mia Caudle, Austin Brower, Avery Brower, Brooke Brower, Brandt Brower and Kayleigh Brower.

Harriet’s family would like to say a special thanks to her faithful caregivers, Ann Gaddy, Aimee ElChamel, and Tammy Little.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
