Helen was born in Wadesboro, NC on March 15, 1940, and was a daughter of the late Johnsie Frank Sikes and the late Nellie Edwards Sikes. She was a graduate of Wadesboro High School.

While growing up in Wadesboro, she and her family were members of First Baptist Church, where she and her twin sister were married to first cousins in a double wedding. She and her sister Ellen shared a close, loving bond as both sisters and friends.

Helen worked for Scholastic, a publisher of books and educational material dedicated to inspiring a love of reading and supporting education. She had a deep love of books and found great joy in her book club with close friends. Her main career, however, was that of being a wife and mother both at which she excelled.

A member of Providence United Methodist Church she attended weekly church services, bible study, and volunteered in church’s activities.

An avid tennis enthusiast, Helen played weekly and attended the U.S. Open in New York City for many years with dear friends. She was also a member of a neighborhood women’s bridge group that on occasion invited their husbands to play.

Helen will be remembered as a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Those who are left to cherish her memory are her sons, William “Bill” James Coble, Jr. of Concord and Clifton Sikes Coble and wife, Amy of Charlotte; her grandchildren who she dearly loved and was very proud of, Claire Coble of Concord, Jill Coble Jones and husband, Bryson of Midland, William “Tripp” Coble, III of Concord, Lily Coble and Ellie Coble both of Charlotte; her twin sister, Ellen Hill and husband, Ben of Beaufort, SC; her sister-in-law, Helen Bowers of Indian Trail; and her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William “Bill” James Coble, Sr.

Helen’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Brookdale Carriage Club Providence and VIA Health Partners for the loving way in which they cared for her. Also, heartfelt gratitude to her friends, Flora Beth Patterson and Sharon Storck, for their weekly visits.

Flowers are welcomed, however the family would prefer memorials be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Rd Charlotte, NC 28211 or to Bennett Family Cemetery, 305 Camden Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
