He was a 1963 graduate of Chesterfield High School and a veteran of the United States Navy. He served in the latter part of the Cuban Missile Crisis, overseeing missile removal in Turkey during the early and mid 1960’s.

H.C. enjoyed time spent using his John Deere tractor on his farm. He was an avid gardener, woodworker, and researcher of family history and genealogy. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and had a great appreciation for country living. He was a HAM radio operator holding the most Advanced Extra Class license, which he was proud of, and he made his own antennas.
