Jack Crawford Morris was born in Wadesboro, NC on May 3, 1942 and passed away on October 8th in Camden, South Carolina. Crawford was the son of Jack Morris and Mary Pines Crawford Morris Wood. He attended Wadesboro High School where he played football and baseball. After graduation, he went to North Carolina State where he graduated in textile engineering in 1965. While there he pledged Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
After graduation he married Francis Douglas and they immediately moved to Hendersonville,Tennessee, to start his job with DuPont in Old Hickory, Tennessee. Their children, Darby and Jay were born there. After five years he was transferred to the Cape Fear plant in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was then transferred to the corporate office in Wilmington, Delaware. He kept telling them to send him “back to America” meaning The South. After traveling all over the country for his job he got his wish and was transferred to the Savannah River plant in Aiken, South Carolina as General Superintendent of Employee Relations. When DuPont left Savannah River Plant, he was transferred to the May Plant in Camden, SC as Personnel Manager, where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his wife Francis, of 61 years, children Darby Morris Herlong (Joe B.), Jack (Jay) Crawford Morris Jr. (Janet), and three wonderful grand girls, Douglas Herlong Bliss (Adam) of Columbia, South Carolina, Annie Kate Herlong Edenfield (Corey) of Lugoff, and Madie Morris Durrence (Cade) of Brunswick Georgia, and three great grandchildren, Nash Bliss and Josephine “Joey” Edenfield and another one on the way.
Crawford loved being with his family, spending time at Ocean Isle Beach, playing golf, hunting and woodworking. He could do wonders with an old antique and built pieces of furniture which will be treasured for years. Crawford was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church for 30 years where he served on many committees. He later became a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Camden, SC.
His memorial service will be held at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff on Monday, October 12th at 3pm with visitation an hour prior, service conducted by Reverend Barry Taylor.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th in Wadesboro, NC, his hometown, at 11am at Eastview Cemetery, service conducted by Ken Caulder.
Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff and Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro are in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The Dementia Society of America
