Jean Howard

POLKTON - On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, Jean Howard, 79, North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame Inductee, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Union in Monroe.

Services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024 by the graveside in Bethel Cemetery with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating.

Jean's friends are welcome to pay their respects from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at the funeral home.

Jean was born November 2, 1944 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Wade Holmes Howard and the late Margaret Eula Jerman Howard. 

She worked for many years with Crawford Motor Company as clerk in the parts department and later retired from Jordan Lumber Company's Anson Wood Yard in the scale house.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wade Holmes "Sonny" Howard and Richard Thomas "Bubba" Howard.

She was an avid UNC Tarheel Basketball Fan  and a Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Fan. Her career as a drag racer began when her father bought her a 1969 Camaro and she enjoyed drag racing with her brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Cemetery Fund, c/o Harold Carpenter, 1381 Cox Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
