Joan Gibson Moore

MCFARLAN – On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Mrs. Joan Gibson Moore, 91, passed away peacefully at McLeod Health Cheraw with family members at her bedside. She was a long-time resident of McFarlan before going to live with her daughter in Cheraw, SC.

There will be a celebration of life service at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2026, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan during a private committal service.

Joan was born in Richmond County, NC and was a daughter of the late Ed Wiley Gibson and the late Lucy Jane Yates Andrews Gibson. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School and had worked for several years with Glen Manufacturing in Morven as an inspector.

She met the love of her life, John Ingram Moore, at the mill in Cordova. After a six-month courtship, they married and went on to share fifty devoted years together until his passing in 2003.

She was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in McFarlan, where she had served as a former President of WMU and sang in the choir for many years.

Joan enjoyed working in her yard, crocheting, shopping and working in word puzzle books. She also enjoyed journaling, leaving many notes and beautiful memories in her handwriting for her children and grandchildren.

She was very instrumental in the lives of her granddaughters and was a loving granny to her great-grandchildren. Granny often entertained her great-grandchildren, by tracing their hands on paper and adding rings and bracelets to them.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her children, John Ingram Moore, Jr. of Monroe and Joanie Moore Stallings and husband, Tony of Cheraw, SC; her granddaughters, Linda Parker and husband, Seth and Kristen Gomez and husband, Jonathan all of Cheraw, SC; her great-grandchildren, Amelia, Hank, Eliza, June, Isla and Lucy and her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ingram Moore, her infant daughter, Debbie Jo Moore, her daughter-in-law, Debbie Moore and her brothers and sisters, James Andrews, Clifton Andrews, Nick Andrews, Ernest Andrews, Lucy Boettjer, Elsie Andrews and Douglas Andrews.

Joan’s family is most grateful to her caregiver, Alyssa Woods for all of her kind and compassionate care for her over the years and also to the staff at McLeod Health Cheraw and McLeod Hospice for the care, support and guidance during her transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home.

The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
