John Franklin "Tootsie" Ratliff

LILESVILLE – Mr. John Franklin “Tootsie” Ratliff, Jr., 88, died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Atrium Main in Charlotte. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, July 12, 2020 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The interment will be private at a later date in Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends on hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Sherry Ratliff, 818 Doctor Sorrell Road in Lilesville. Tootsie was born April 24, 1932 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late John Franklin Ratliff and the late Catherine Bryant Ratliff. He worked for 43 years as a Drag Line Operator with W.R. Bonsal in Lilesville, worked for Jim Hill Sand and Gravel for approximately 10 years and following that went back to work at Old Castle, which was formerly, W. R. Bonsal for another 10 years, finally retiring at the age of 86. He enjoyed bowling, playing golf and shag dancing at the beach. Surviving are his wife of almost 58 years, Linda Pegram Ratliff; his children, Tammy Brewer (Earl) of Ellerbe, Mitchell Ratliff (Sherry) of Lilesville and Mike Ratliff (Donna) of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Amanda Ratliff, Will Ratliff (fiancé, Erin Greene), Carly Ratliff and Levi Ratliff all of Lilesville, Cameron Brewer of Ellerbe, Michael Ratliff and Kelly Ratliff; his great-grandchildren, Dillon Black, Gabriel Parks and Elijah Parks; his sister-in-law, Diane Marks (Wayne) of Albemarle and his nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Curtis Ratliff, Glennie Mae Ratliff, Betty Jane Threadgill and Aline Robbins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o, Sarah Harrington, 1364 Hailey's Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
