WADESBORO – On Saturday, January 10, 2026, Mr. John Ellis Long, 87, passed away peacefully at his home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Storz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
John was born September 3, 1938, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Morman Long and the late Mollie Jordan Long. He was a graduate of Morven High School and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He first worked with Dickerson Construction as a building supervisor and later served as a maintenance supervisor for highway patrol buildings in several counties in North Carolina for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
With certifications in appliance repair, electrical, and HVAC, John was often called on by people in the community for repair services to their appliances and heating and cooling systems.
John was an active member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter and usher. He was an ordained deacon and served on various committees of the church. He was also known for always having a pocket full of candy to share with the children at church. He also enjoyed traveling with the church group, where he served as their driver.
John and his wife of 62 years, Pegg,y were always together, and they traveled over the United States, making many lasting memories. Their family rejoices in knowing they have now been reunited.
He was also a member of Kilwinning Mason Lodge in Wadesboro.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews and their families from both the Long and Jordan families, which included Mitchell Dickens (Lisa), who was his caregiver.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jordan Long, and his sisters and brothers, Ethel McLaurin, Shirley Meachum, Helen Davidson, Morman Long, Jr., and Edward Long.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, 3373 Country Club Rd., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
