Johnny Henry Hill, Jr.

Johnny Henry Hill, Jr., 89, formerly of Wadesboro, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021 in Hickory, NC. The third of seven children born to Johnnie and Vera Strickland Hill, he is survived by his children Velda Cureton (Gary Gales), Michael Hill (Cindy) and Sandra Markland (Tony); his grandchildren Chris Cureton (partner Jessica Nobles); Shane Cureton (Leslie); Michael J. Hill (partner Brooke Friedericks); Matthew Hill (Debbie) and David Markland (Christal); his greatgrandchildren Alyssa Daughtry, Dakota and Kaylee Markland, Lelia Mae and Jamie Hill and Andrew Cureton, his sisters Susan Schaffer, Betty Jean Burleson and Nancy Simmons, his brother-in-law Valdon Lovett and sisters-in-law Louise Hill, Nancy Martin and Linda Hertlein. Johnny retired from the Air Force with twenty years' service which included two tours in Korea. He also retired from Alltel Telephone Company and the Wadesboro Volunteer Fire Department. Following his Air Force retirement, he kept a garden, worked on cars, planted flowers and helped his neighbors. After moving to be closer to his children, he took up making walking sticks and canes. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Dawn Lovett Hill. A service to inter their intermingled ashes will be held Saturday May 15, 2021 at 1:30pm at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. The interment will be in the Bennett Family Cemetery in Wadesboro.
