Emblem

In loving memory of Joseph Larry Conley, whose gift for fixing just about anything was matched only by his love for the water, boats, fishing, hunting, tinkering in the garage, and the cherished women in his life.

Born in Marietta, OH, on October 3, 1937, Larry was the youngest of three children to his parents, Daisy Lee Baum Conley and Joseph Berkley Conley. With his sister Wanda Rea about 12 years his senior and the eldest brother Elmer, Larry grew up surrounded by the steady presence of his older siblings. His childhood was filled with boating, fishing, and just the right amount of silliness and mischief, often carried out under their watchful eyes.

Though fascinated with flying, his nearsightedness kept him grounded. Instead, he proudly served as a Naval Technician from 1957-1961, stationed in Hawaii and San Diego, CA.

Following his military service, he settled in Vienna, WV where, though two marriages, he had four daughters: Mindi Gayle, Sherri Michelle, Pamela Sue, and Lisa Ann. He spent 30 years working as a lab technician and later as a buyer for Marbon Chemicals, which eventually became part of Borg Warner Chemicals and later GE Plastics. In addition to his career, he used his Mr. Fix-It skills to manage over 30 rental properties he owned throughout Parkersburg and Vienna, WV.

He looked forward to weekends whether he was boating and water skiing on the Ohio River, fishing, hunting, or showing off his moves at local skating rinks (he was quite the roller-skating stud!) It was at Skate Country where he met his true love, Mollie, and wholeheartedly embraced her daughters, Tiffany and Ellerie, along with the rest of the Fliehman family.

Mollie and Larry married in 1991 and, once the kids were in college, they set sail down the Florida coastline to Big Pine Key. There, they spent over 20 joyful years living on the water-boating, fishing, snorkeling, lobster diving, and soaking in beautiful sunsets together. Later, they moved to a lake in Umatilla, FL, where they lived until Mollie's passing.

In November 2021, just prior to Mollie's passing, Larry moved to Cheraw, SC to live with his beloved daughter, Sherri, and husband, Jack. There he lived out the rest of his years, where, on good days, you'd find him fishing, swimming, hunting, or playing his harmonica under the gazebo in the sunshine.

Larry passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, April 26, 2025. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceeded in death by his brother, Elmer Conley. He is survived by his sister, Wanda Rea Moorehead; his daughters Mindi Martin, Sherri (Jack) Williams, Pamela (Gene) Harney, Lisa (Jeff) Smith; step-daughters Tiffany Hackathorn and Ellerie Hackathorn; his grandchildren, Stanton Shepherd, Summer Williams, Morgan Williams, Kaylee Conley, Devin Joseph and Delainey Smith; his great-grandchildren, Josie Williams, Christian Conley, Casen Conley, Annabell Joseph and Dawson Joseph.

Larry’s silliness, ornery smile, infectious laugh, Dad jokes, and amazing story telling will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. We find comfort in knowing he is now cruising heavenly waters in one of his many boats, fishing rod in hand, with Mollie by his side.
