She graduated Wadesboro High School and attended Appalachian State before embarking on a 40+ year career as an accountant and bookkeeper with the department store, B.C. Moore & Sons. More recently, Joyce worked for the Hampton B. Allen Library, something she considered an important and valuable labor of love for the community. Joyce was a longtime member of Camden Presbyterian Church where she faithfully served as the choir director and organist for more than 50 years doing everything she could for an aging and much loved church membership. She also served in the Wadesboro Lions Club, always willing to work on any project that she thought would improve the lives of those in our community. Joyces survivors include two brothers and many nieces and nephews. The first brother is Rick Ratliffe of Florence, SC and daughter, Amy (Corbett) Stone and their children, Elizabeth Stone Timmons, Christian Stone, Collin Stone, and Carson Stone; and daughter, April (Troy) Huey and their children, Avery Huey, Tatum Huey, and Reese Huey; a son Blake Ratliffe and his son Liam Brand; and daughter Brittany Ratliffe. I am one of those cousins, Jimmy, whom Marion spoke of. I regret never having really appreciated how much Joyce and Jimmy did for my parents, Eunice and Howard Shepherd. A rather famous quote is 'to talk the talk you must be able to walk the walk.' Joyce certainly was able to walk the walk and do for others before she did anything for herself. She will be missed by the Shepherd brothers, Gene and Jimmy. And we thank her for all she did for our family and for others. God bless you Joyce. Jimmy and Anne Shepherd, Dover, Delaware
