Laverne Russell "Vern" Altman

             WADESBORO – On Sunday, July 10, 2022, Mr. Laverne Russell “Vern” Altman, 76, passed away peacefully at his home.

            Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, July 15, 2022 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. James Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery with military honors.

            The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 7:30pm Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the funeral home.

            Vern was born February 15, 1946 in Florence County, SC and was a son of the late Troy Altman and the late Mary Gandy Altman Morris. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War and was retired from B.V. Hedrick in Lilesville.

            He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Lilesville.

            Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Kathy Winfree Altman; his sons, Lee Barrett of Wadesboro, Roland Barrett of Ansonville and Shaun Altman and wife, Macy of Jefferson, SC; his grandchildren, Liam Barrett and Grayson Altman; his brothers and sisters, John Frank Altman and wife, Pat of Timmonsville, SC, Wesley Altman of Florence, SC, J.W. Altman and wife, Mae of Lynchburg, SC, Mary Tedder and husband, Johnny and Marilyn Walters and husband, Bill all of Hartsville, SC and Carolyn Cochran and husband, Bobby of Sumter, SC and his nieces and nephews and their families.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dean Winters and Ada Beard.

            In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7080 Stanback Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
