ANSONVILLE  - On Friday, May 1, 2026, Mrs. Lou Kelly Simpson, 87, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

There will be a graveside service at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 4, 2026 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ansonville with Rev.Jeff Glenn officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.

Lou was born January 17, 1939 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Daniel Edward "Dock" Kelly and the late Fannie Belle Williams Kelly.  She attended Anson County public schools and had worked as a seamstress in textiles for a number of years, working at Corey Knits and Burnsville Apparel.

She was a longtime and faithful member of Ansonville Baptist Church, where she had taught children's Sunday school. She attended faithfully until her health began to decline.

Lou enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and was an excellent quilter. She was instrumental in helping care for her grandchildren all of whom she dearly loved.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Those who are left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 70 years, Monroe Talmage Simpson, Jr.; her children, James Talmage Simpson (PEnny_ and Ricky Monroe Simpson both of Ansonville and Wendy Simpson Conner (Kevin) of Polkton; her grandchildren, Jessie Simpson (Cheyenne) of Polkton, Jacob Simpson of Ansonville, Melissa Simpson Eddins (Chris) of Wadesboro, Allison Simpson (Brandon Ratliff) of Ansonville and Ashley Conner Liles (Jeremy) of Polkton; her great-grandchildren, Raelynn Simpson, Audrey Simpson, Colt Lee Eddins, Caden Lee Eddins, Madelyn Kay Ratliff, Kaylee Jean Liles, Conner Luke Liles, Ryley LaRue Liles, Brett Mitchell Liles, and Jeremy "JJ" Liles, Jr.; her sisters and brothers, Margaret Ponds, John Kelly (Teah) both of Wadesboro, Ed Kelly (William) of Lexington, SC, Warren Kelly (Teri) of Mt. Pleasant, and Denise Shepard (Steve) of Biscoe and her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Debra Kay Simpson; and by her brothers and sisters, Leak Kelly, Sim Kelly, Alma Honeycutt and Judy Belle Hildreth.

Lou's family is most grateful to the staff of Anson Community Hospice, a division of Richmond County Hospice and the staff at Hospice Haven for all they have done for her. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ansonville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 368 , Ansonville, NC 28007 or to Richmond County Hospice Haven, 1119 N US 1 HWY, Rockingham, NC 28379.
