MARSHVILLE - On Saturday evening, October 4, 2025, Mrs. Lucy Mitchum HInson Griffin, 96, passed away peacefully at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham to be with her Lord and Savior. We take comfort in knowing she has seen her Lord and been reunited with many loved ones and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Marshville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Marshville Cemetery.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Lucy was born August 2, 1929 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Curtis Caswell Mitchum and the late Nettie Godwin Mitchum. She was a graduate of Marshville High School.

She was a longtime and faithful member of Marshville United Methodist Church.

Lucy was blessed to live a long life and has seen so many changes in the world. She loved to tell stories and recall memories. She often told of days when they rode in horse and buggies to go to the store. She never drove a car and in her younger years when she worked, she rode a bicycle with a basket on the front for when she bought groceries she could get them home.

She was first married to Max Oscar Hinson who died in 1958 and she was left with the task of raising two daughters as a single mother. Living in a small house in downtown Marshville, Lucy did amazingly well for herself and her girls with the help of her family.

In 1980, Lucy married H.A. Griffin and together they shared 33 years of love and laughter together. H.A. doted on Lucy all their years together and Lucy was blessed to find love again after so many years. Together they worked in their church and community, often visiting with those who were sick and shut-in. H.A. always wanted to share the love of Jesus with everyone he met and Lucy was right by his side in agreement. They were a blessing to so many people. They loved Sunday afternoon rides in the country and her daughter kept that tradition going for her as long as she was able to go out.

Lucy was an excellent cook! She made the best sweet potato pies and often looked forward to cooking a meal for all her family.

She was blessed with so many friends and it was easy for her to make new ones wherever she went. She often said, in all her years she only met one person she couldn't get along with. Lucy was so easy going, kind and gracious and never missed an opportunity to say I love you or thank you.

Lucy's motto was "Life is what you make of it" and she lived that and shared that with all she came in contact with, promoting that everyday is a good day.

Those who are left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Delores and Rick Billingsley of Cherry Grove, SC and Dolly and Johnny Harrington of Wadesboro; her granddaughter, Noel Stamp of Myrtle Beach, SC and her great-granddaughter, Adison Stamp of Myrtle Beach, SC; her niece, Lura Kay and Keith Wheelhouse of Virginia Beach, VA; her nephew, Jimmy and Debbie Mitchum of Virginia Beach, VA and her extended family and friends.

Lucy's family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Wadesboro Health and Rehab for making her time there special. She dearly loved everyone there and felt as if they were her family too. Most recently, the staff of Richmond County Hospice Haven were heaven sent for Lucy and her family and the love and kindness shown there. Everyone at both Wadesboro Health and Rehab and Richmond County Hospice Haven made her life better.
