WADESBORO – On Monday, February 12, 2024, Margaret McRae Wall Goins, 70, was reunited with her husband and many loved ones in heaven.
Margaret was welcomed as the third of four children to Edwin and Celeste Steagall Wall of Morven, N.C on November 14, 1953. Many of her childhood days were spent on the Wall land where she grew up grading eggs and having adventures in the woods and creek with her siblings and cousins.
Growing up she had several jobs she enjoyed including Morven Truck Stop and Morven Pharmacy, but her passion and God-given talent was teaching.
She was a graduate of Bowman High School and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a certificate in Early Childhood Education. A proud graduate of UNC-P and charter member of the Delta Theta Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma, she was ready to give back to the county she lovingly called home.
Teaching for over 40 years, Margaret left a great impression on several generations of students and coworkers. Margaret always went the extra mile, including leading several committees and events. Loving her “babies” was one of greatest gifts she gave to the community.
Like most of the family, Margaret enjoyed arts and craft of all kinds. She taught paint classes at Anson Tech and a variety of classes at her mother’s craft store Back Porch Crafts. Margaret also led the Anson County Arts Council’s summer art camps.
After retirement, Margaret did not slow down and stayed active volunteering and enjoying life. She was a part of many organizations and groups including Anson Women’s League, Delta Kappa Gamma, local Bridge and Bunco Clubs, Anson County Arts Council and always supported her girls at both Anson and Richmond County Partnership for Children and Anson County Domestic Violence.
A lifelong member of Morven Presbyterian Church, she fulfilled many roles in the church’s areas of ministry. Margaret was a great example of the showing God’s love to the world.
Margaret was a natural caregiver and took on the role for several loved ones in times of need and always provided a safe space. She would help anyone she could. Many of her daughter’s friends affectionately called her “Mama Margaret.”
Though her love story with John ended too soon, it was a beautiful testimony of vows, loyalty, and everlasting love. She never wanted another relationship because she “would never find anyone like John.”
Margaret was a role model of strength, positivity, grace, kindness, and love to her daughters. They could not have asked for a better mom.
Margaret is survived by her daughters Caroline Goins and Elizabeth (Joseph) Rizzo of Wadesboro; her sisters and brother, Mary Buckingham and James Wall of Morven and Inez Vaughn of New London; her nephews and nieces, Wheeler (Jennifer) Buckingham and their children Tommy and Payton; Celeste (Woodie) Dutton and their children Lauren, Madison and Anna; Stephen (Moira) Vaughn and their children Emerson, Lilian and Casten.
She maintained a special relationship with the Goins family, Beverly (Kim) Allen, her niece Kaitlin of Sanford and Ken (Becky) Goins of Wadesboro, and many dear cousins from both the Wall and Steagall families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Goins in 1996 and by her brothers-in-law, Tom Buckingham and Ronnie Vaughn.
Margaret not only made an impact on the lives of her family members, but she did so with all she met. She made a difference in the lives of her students and friends alike, her bright smile and words of encouragement were always there at the right time.
There will be a service to celebrate her life at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Morven Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stacey Lundy and Rev. Heather McIntyre officiating.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Like the light she brought to the world, it is requested to please wear bright and vibrant colors to the services.
