PATRICK, SC - On Saturday, February 14, 2026, Mr. Marion Smith Watson, Jr., 78, passed away at McLeod Health Cheraw, SC.
There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 25, 2026 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Marion was born August 21, 1947 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Marion Smith Watson and the late Sarah Elizabeth "Sister" Gray Watson. He grew up in Wadesboro and was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and Wingate University. While growing up in Wadesboro and living there until he moved to Charlotte to be with his mother and sister, he was a member of First Baptist Church, Lee Avenue.
For many years, Marion worked with furniture sales at Martin Furniture Company and Homeway Furniture and later worked with Carolina Tire and owned and operated Smitty's Tire.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his son, Marion Smith "Smitty" Watson, III (Janie Rogers) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; his nieces, Michelle Martin Williamson (Kent Booth) of Lancaster, SC and Ashley Martin Dalton (Tyon Hunter) of Charlotte, NC; his great-nieces, Sasha Dalton of Atlanta, GA and Trinity Dalton Baker (Colin) of Kannapolis, NC; his cousin, Holmes Gray, III (Betty) of Millbrook AL; his companion, Kathy Brewer of Cheraw, SC and other relatives from both the Watson and Gray families and friends.
Marion was a simple man and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Time shared with his mother, his sister, his son and his nieces meant a lot to him. He enjoyed racing cars in Dillon, SC and watching wrestling. He was his own person and a unique individual who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
His family is comforted in knowing he has been reunited with his parents, Shorty and Sister and his beloved sister, Leah. What a family reunion that has been for them all.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 423, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
