Martha Elizabeth Beam Stacker, 93, died peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte, with the Reverend Amelia Stinson-Wesley and Reverend Ashley Cyre officiating.  The family will greet friends at 10:00 am in the church sanctuary before the service, with a private graveside service immediately following at Sharon Memorial Park.

A lifelong resident of Charlotte, Martha was born on January 20, 1929, to Merton and Lena Beam. She was the youngest of 4 children, and she loved and looked up to her older siblings, and later, their spouses. From an early age, Martha loved her church and music. She sang in church choirs, Billy Graham Crusades, and worked at WAYS Radio Station, where she often sang the morning hymn on live broadcasts.

On August 21, 1949, Martha married Earl Oren Stacker, a Charlotte firefighter. They raised 3 children in their Merry Oaks home that they built, and that Martha only just departed last year. Martha and Oren were married until his death in 1993.

Martha, her siblings, and husband Oren were founding members of Memorial United Methodist Church, where she taught preschool and music for more than 50 years. Martha loved her church, her pastors, friends, and preschool family.

Martha tended flower gardens and particularly loved sunflowers. She enjoyed phone calls and sent thousands of sweet handwritten notes during her lifetime. If you sent her a card, it was displayed proudly on her piano. While she never learned to drive a car, Martha was always on the go with the help of faithful friends and family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her siblings Elmer “Cool” Beam and wife Georgie; Howard Beam and wife Johnnie; and Mary Grace Todd and husband Ralph, as well as her son-in-law Charles Litaker, who all loved her dearly.

Survivors include her children Gail Litaker, Doug Stacker and wife Ann, Melodie Marwitz and husband Kurt; her grandchildren Katie Cyre and husband Ashley, Chuck Litaker and wife Rhonda, Emily  Privette and husband Rodney, Kevin Marwitz and wife Crystina, and Keith Marwitz and wife Lakyn; her 13 great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Mott”.

Her family will remember her for her love, her big laugh and sense of humor, and for her genuine care for others. Hearing her play the piano, eating her holiday shaped sugar cookies and her legendary Orange Cake, are just a few of the many memories her family will cherish.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to support the Preschool Program of Memorial United Methodist Church, 4012 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205.
