Mary Joan Baucom

POLKTON - On Friday, August 19, 2022, Miss Mary Joan Baucom, 83, a life-long resident of the Burnsville Community, passed away peacefully at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC.

Services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 25, 2022, by the graveside at Rocky Mount Baptist Church in Polkton.

Joan was born May 31, 1939 in Wilson, NC and was the only daughter of the late Fred Washington Baucom and the late Eva Allen Baucom. She was a graduate of Burnsville High School and had graduated from design school in Charlotte, NC.

She worked in retail for several years, having owned and operated an infant clothing store in Oakboro and worked at Dollar General. The work she loved most, however, was working alongside her father in his construction business. Working with her father, afforded many opportunities for her to travel and see many interesting places.

Joan, one of the Burnsville Community's notable citizens, was one of a kind and always had a story to tell. She grew up attending Rocky Mount Baptist Church and visited various churches in the area.

She is survived by her cousins.
