WADESBORO - Mrs. Mary Hamrick Martin, 87, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Anson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Hunter, Jr. and Mr. Ken Goins officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home. Mary was born October 14, 1924 in Rutherford County, NC a daughter of the late Inez Harrill Hamrick Guffey and the late Gail Lee Hamrick. She worked for several years in the textile industry, having worked at both Hornwood and Wansona and later worked as a nursing assistant at Wadesboro Nursing Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro. Surviving are her children, Johnny (Cardelia) Martin of Wadesboro, Mike Martin of Palm Bay, FL, Steve (Julie) Martin of Wilmington, Linda (John) DeDyne of Palm Bay, FL and Ann (Steve) Chewning of Wadesboro; her grandchildren, John Martin, Amanda Kegebein, James Michael Martin, Mary McGhan, Luke Martin, Keith, Wade and Drew Kirby, Kristina Batista, Kali and Nick DeDyne and Steven and Tyler Chewning and her 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, John William 'Bill' Martin and by her sister, Ollie Mae Higgins. Memorials may be made to Anson County Council on Aging, Grace Senior Center, 109 HWY 742 S, Wadesboro, NC 28170. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
