Mary Katherine Gathings Short

Mrs. Mary Katherine Gathings Short, 77, of Morven, died suddenly Monday, July 4, 2011. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Morven United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry King officiating. Interment will follow in the Morven Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home. Mrs. Short was born in Anson County on December 19, 1933, a daughter of the late William Thomas and Beulah Mae Swink Gathings. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, George D. Short of the home; two children, George E. (Melanie) Short of Morven and Debbie S. (Scott) Houston of Lexington, S.C.; four grandchildren, Erica Houston (Brian) Peake, Emily Houston (Jamie) Addison, Heather Short (Jeremy) Collins, and Matthew Short; and one great-grandchild, Logan Peake. Also surviving are her brothers and sister, Robert 'Bob' Gathings of Aquadale, Wayne Gathings of Lilesville, Kermit Gathings of Wadesboro, Thomas Gathings of Burlington, and Sarah Morton of Richfield.
