Born January 30, 1936, in Anson County, NC, Mary was one of twelve children belonging to Marion Butler Martin and Mary Alice Starnes Martin. She finished high school in Rockingham and soon after moved to Charlotte to be with her sister, Ruth. Mary worked for Independent Life Insurance Company for many years. After leaving Independent Life she went to work at the Charlotte Board of Realtors as a receptionist due to her love of interacting with people. She remained there until retiring.
Mary enjoyed meeting and talking to people from all walks of life. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, along with her neighbors and friends. She enjoyed working in her yard and loved to root saplings of flowers and trees to share with others, as she could get anything to grow and flourish. Mary enjoyed sitting on her front porch where she would speak to all who passed by. She enjoyed eating good food, whether it was home-cooked or eaten out at a restaurant. Most of all, she enjoyed the love and companionship that her four-legged friend, Cocoa, brought into her life. If you knew Mary, you also knew Cocoa.
Survivors include: two loving daughters, Linda Diane Wiggins (Jeff) and Sharon Wiggins both of Charlotte; her grandchildren, Brittney Edwards, Jessica Edwards, Wyatt Wiggins and Madison Wiggins; her bonus grandchildren, Samantha Richards (Nick) and Jakob Stewart (Alli); and a bonus great-grandchild, Carson Richards.
Also surviving is brother, Charles Martin (Joyce) of Newnan, GA; and sister, Joyce Eddins of Graham, NC. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her late husbands, Ed Fuller and Herman L. (Shorty) Wiggins and by nine siblings, Claude, Ray, Clay, Dewey, Marion, Leon, Harding, Naomi, and Ruth.
