LILESVILLE – On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Mrs. Melba Broome Martin, 77, passed away at her home.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Monday, September 26, 2022, at Lilesville Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home.
Melba was born June 22, 1945, in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Leroy Bunyan Broome and the late Wincey Lee Griffin Broome. She opened her home to keep children prior to being employed with Walmart in Wadesboro following 22 years of service. After retiring, however, she tried her hand at childcare again, caring for her great-niece, Grace.
She was a long-time member of Lilesville Baptist Church where she was a part of the Joy Sunday School Class and served on the flower committee.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Brian Hildreth of Wadesboro and Bonnie and Eddie Thompson of Lilesville; her grandson, Jason Hildreth of Houston, PA; her step-grandchildren, Christy Thompson of Lilesville and Chuck Thompson (Julie) of Chesterfield, SC and her nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe E. Martin and her sisters and brother, Willie Poplin, Kathryn Teal and Olin Broome.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
