Born January 28, 1963, in Florence, South Carolina, Melissa was the daughter of Robert Carrison and Clara Livingston Rollins. She was a proud graduate of Cheraw High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Francis Marion University, followed by a lab tech degree at McLeod Health. Melissa dedicated many years of her professional life to Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe, North Carolina, where she served as Lab Director.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Melissa was an incredible artist, affectionately known as the “Oyster Mama.” She created beautiful oyster art, sculptures, paintings, and clay pieces, each reflecting her creativity and spirit. Melissa expressed her vibrant personality not only through her art, but also through her clothing, accessories, and shoes. Her signature fuchsia pink lipstick became one of her trademarks which mirrored her magnetic presence.

Melissa never met a stranger—she possessed a rare ability to form authentic, heartfelt connections with everyone she encountered. She cherished her family and maintained deep relationships with her extensive circle of friends, her beloved “soul sisters”. Among the many things that brought her joy, she particularly loved the beach, her girls’ trips, and long mornings at her friend Mary’s coffee shop.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Johnnie H. and Valeria Jordan, her brother-in-law, Bobby Joe “B.J.” White, and her niece, Contina “Tina” Jordan.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Lonnie Wallace Jordan; her youngest daughter Jessie Nicole Jordan of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and her daughter Maggie Marie Jordan and new son-in-law Jeremy Peters of New York City; her parents, Carrison and Clara Rollins of Cheraw, South Carolina; her sister, Carisa (Jamie) Huggins of Cheraw, South Carolina; nieces Carie Huggins and Allie Huggins of Cheraw, South Carolina, and Bonnie (Brett) Young of Charlotte, North Carolina; nephews Noah Huggins of Cheraw, South Carolina, and Johnnie (Tina) Jordan III of Hamlet, North Carolina; her sister-in-law, Sandra Jordan of Lake Wateree, South Carolina; brothers-in-law, Johnnie Jordan (Debbie Hollaway) of Chesterfield, Donnie (Betty) Jordan of Monroe, North Carolina, and Ronnie Jordan (Kaye Chavis) of Cheraw, South Carolina; as well as a host of cherished friends, her beloved dogs Huey and Dixie, and her grand dogs, Pee Dee and Billie Anne.

In honor of her love for animals, donations may be made in Melissa’s memory to The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach (www.humanesocietynmb.org).
