Mollie Coley Bowers

NEW LONDON - While her son was reading to her, the beloved twenty-third Psalm, Mrs. Mollie Coley Bowers, 94, of New London and formerly of the Burnsville Community of Polkton, passed away peacefully to meet the Shepherd of Psalm face to face.

The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Calvary Episcopal Church in Wadesboro. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the parish hall of the church.

Mollie was born March 22, 1929, in Anson County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Jesse McKnight "J. Mack" Coley and the late Della Trexler Coley.  She was a graduate of Wadesboro High School and since childhood, was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Wadesboro. At the church, she was active with the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) and was a vital part of the church choir.

She loved music and singing and would often share how she sang in the choir for Ms. Susan Hardison at Calvary Church and she instilled in Mollie a great appreciation for music. Ms. Hardison made it possible for Mollie and her sister, Ann to have voice lessons in Charlotte. She and her sister, Ann, were known for their wonderful voices and were often called upon to sing for weddings and funerals.

Mollie was an excellent cook and was especially known for her delicious pound cakes. She loved when friends and family came to visit her at her home in Burnsville and just as her mother before her, she always made sure her guests were sent home with something from her kitchen or with fruits and vegetables she and her family had canned throughout the summers. She was always giving of herself and her gifts.  Also, an accomplished artist, she loved painting beautiful flowers and sharing her paintings with others. She will be remembered as one of the most honest, loving, and generous people on earth.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, June Bowers of Pittsboro, Iris Bowers of New London, Mollie Williamson and husband, Ken of Wagram, Buddy Bowers and wife, Emily of Wadesboro and Rick Bowers and wife, Brenda of Ft. Mill, SC; her 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Baxter Bowers, and her brothers and sisters, J. Mack Coley, Elizabeth Ackerman, Douglas Coley, and Ann Porter.

The family suggests memorials be made to Calvary Episcopal Church, 308 E. Wade St., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
